Recruiters spend 6-7 seconds scanning your resume. Most bullets fail because they describe duties instead of impact. I check five things: action verb, a number, clear impact, right length, and no weak language. Paste your bullet and rewrite until you hit 5/5.

Paste one bullet from your resume. I'll score it instantly.

—/5

Izzy

Example: Before and After

Before (1/5)

"Responsible for managing the marketing team and overseeing various campaigns for multiple clients."

After (5/5)

"Led 8-person marketing team to 23% conversion increase across 12 client campaigns, generating $1.2M in annual revenue."

Action verb, 4 numbers, clear impact, 22 words, zero weak language. A 30-second rewrite that changes everything.

Quick rules for your whole resume:

  • 3-5 bullets for recent roles, 2-3 for older ones. Total: 12-18 bullets. More than that dilutes your strongest points.
  • Put your strongest bullets first. Recruiters read the first 2 closely and skim the rest.
  • Fragments, not sentences. No "I" at the start. No period at the end. Start with the action verb.
  • Run every bullet through this scorer. If your average is below 3/5, your resume needs a rewrite.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a strong resume bullet point?

Five things: starts with an action verb, includes at least one number, shows impact (not just activity), is 10-30 words long, and uses no passive or weak language. Hit all 5 and your bullet is in the top 10% of what recruiters see.

How many bullet points should I have per job?

3-5 bullets for your most recent 2 roles, 2-3 for older roles. Total resume bullets should be 12-18. More than that and you're diluting your strongest points.

What are the best action verbs for resumes?

The strongest verbs show leadership and results: Led, Built, Launched, Delivered, Generated, Reduced, Increased, Negotiated, Designed, Implemented. Avoid: Helped, Assisted, Contributed, Participated, Responsible for.

How do I add metrics if my work wasn't measured?

Estimate. 'Roughly 20%' is better than nothing. Think about: How many people did you work with? How much time did you save? How many projects did you complete? What was the dollar value? If you truly can't quantify, describe the scope: 'for a team of 40' or 'across 3 departments.'

Should resume bullets be full sentences or fragments?

Fragments. No 'I' at the start. No period at the end. Start with the action verb: 'Led 8-person team...' not 'I led an 8-person team.' This is a universal resume convention.
